I really enjoy creating shadow frames as a little decorative element for your home or your craft room or anywhere, really. Let’s go ahead and run through the details.

NOTE: all supplies are linked in the thumbnails at the end of this blog post.

I began this project by die cutting the Snowbells LOTS of times from Neenah 110lb cardstock and Green Apple cardstock. Once everything was cut, I did some light ink blending on the flowers using Gravel ink and on the stems and leaves using Fairway and Field ink.

I assembled the flowers and adhered them to the stems and cut a background panel that would fit inside the frame from dark green cardstock. I wanted a little more interest, so I splattered it with yellow spray. I chose that one because I knew that it would show up on dark cardstock.

The sentiment was created using the Just Breathe set. I stamped it onto black cardstock using VersaMark ink and heat set it using Detail White Embossing Powder. I trimmed it out with the coordinating die four times to achieve that stacked look.

When the panel dried, I arranged the flowers and sentiment in a way that I was satisfied with and then began adhering them with liquid glue. The sentiment was added with foam tape for added dimension. Once the flowers and sentiment were in their places, I went back and added the leaves here and there to fill in.

That does it for this project! I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did! Have you tried making a shadow frame? I always end up making mine to send to Simon headquarters, and I really need to make one for myself one of these days! Don’t forget to join the Blog Hop and comment along the way for your chance to win a gift certificate! Thanks for joining me, and I hope you have a great day!

Simon Says Stamp Good Cheer Ornament

Hello Crafters, and welcome back to my blog! Thanks so much for stopping by to check out today’s project featuring the Tim Holtz Be of Good Cheer set! Let’s run through the details for this one!

NOTE: all supplies are linked in the thumbnails at the end of this blog post.

I began this project by die cutting the snowman pieces from the set with color coordinating cardstock. I then adhered the pieces of the snowman and went to work on the Layered Rosette from Simon’s latest DieCember release. I die cut the pieces of the rosette from Neenah 110lb cardstock and did some ink blending using Cabbage and Artichoke ink. You can tell from the images that I die cut the smaller rosette from gold cardstock as well, for layering purposes. Before adhering the pieces, I did some white ink splatter for a bit of added interest.

Since I made this into an ornament, I die cut the larger rosette four times, used a hole punch so that I could tie ribbons, and adhered all of those together with liquid glue. To give it a bit of aging, I rubbed some Gathered Twigs Oxide ink along the edges as well. The snowman was then adhered using foam tape for added dimension.

To finish up, I used some gold thread for the hanging portion of the ornament, and used some red and white twine to make a bow as well. That does it for this project! I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. You can receive your own Be of Good Cheer set free with an $25 Tim Holtz purchase. Thanks again for joining me, and have a wonderful day!

Simon Says Stamp Joyeux Noel Shadow Frame

Hello Friends, and welcome back! I’m back today with a non-card project featuring the new Joyeux Noel die from the latest Sweet Wishes release. Let’s go ahead and get into the details!

NOTE: all supplies are linked in the thumbnails at the end of this blog post.

I have been wanting to do a shadow box frame project for a while now, and when I received this die, I thought that I could make a holiday type home decor project. I went to a big box craft store and purchased two shadow frames, one black and one white, because I wasn’t sure which color that I would want to use. Plus, they were 50% off, so I was basically getting two for the price of one, and who doesn’t love a good deal, right?!

My first step in this project was cutting the sentiment once from silver cardstock and three times from black cardstock. I also went ahead and cut the shadow portion twice and adhered all of those pieces together using liquid glue.

Next, I cut the Rustic Layering Flower from red cardstock, and cut the centers of the flowers from yellow cardstock. While I was cutting, I went ahead and cut the Budding Branches several times from green cardstock. I did some ink blending on all of these pieces using Cabernet, Honey and Kale inks. Once the ink blending was complete, I assembled the pieces of the flowers and set those aside.

If you know me, you know that I like to add gems in the place of berries, so I added red gems on all of my branches. So, normally you attach things in a shadow frame using pins, but that wasn’t going to work for me, so I cut a black panel the size of the opening and splattered that using silver acrylic ink.

Once that was dry, I began adhering the elements of the frame. The sentiment was adhered in the center using foam strips, the branches were glued in place and the flowers were adhered with foam squares.

That does it for this project. Please note that I did have to remove the glass for some of the photos, because there was too much glare. I hope you enjoyed this project as much as I did! I had been wanting to make a shadow frame for quite some time, and I’m so glad that I finally got around to doing it! I’m ready to make another one! Don’t forget to check out the entire Sweet Wishes release! Thanks for joining me, and I hope you have a fabulous day!

Simon Says Stamp Rainbow Whirl Blossoms Decor

Hello Crafty Friends, and thanks so much for joining me! I’m back today with a labor of love, non-card project, featuring the new Whirl Blossom from Simon Says Stamp’s latest release, Be Bold. There’s an Instagram Hop going on today to celebrate the release! You don’t want to miss that, because Simon is giving away a $25 gift card to a random commenter at each stop along the hop! Who doesn’t love gift cards, am I right?! Anyhoo, let’s jump right in to the details for this project, shall we?

Main Products:

The fine folk at Simon LOVE non-card projects, and I’ve had this idea for a little while, and finally decided to just do it! I love this project so much, that I’m probably going to do a letter T at some point to display in my studio. I should totally start a series called, Diecutting is My Jam! Anyhoo, this project began with a decision to cover an S in rainbow flowers, so I went to one of the big-box craft stores to purchase said S. I knew that I wanted the S to be able to stand on it’s own, so it needed to be a little thicker. When looking around in the craft store, the larger S’s were thin, and would not stand on their own, so I opted to purchase three smaller S’s.

I used the SSS Whirl Blossom and cut bunches of flowers from rainbow-colored cardstock, of all different brands. I then pulled out the SSS Pawsitively Saturated Inks to do some ink blending in the center of both parts of the flowers. The inks used were Bubblegum, Peony, Cantaloupe, Sherbet, Blush, Sunbeam, Zest, Sprout, Fairway, Seafoam, Surf, Marine, Lilac and Orchid. I did ink blending with the lighter colors and when it dried back, I went back over it with the darker shade of ink.

Once all of the ink blending was complete, I glued the pieces of the flowers together and added a clear Dazzling Gem to the center of each flower. I decided that I also wanted some leaves to tuck in between the flowers and used the SSS Eucalyptus Leaves to cut those from Neenah 110lb cardstock. Of course, I had to play around with the placement before diving in! Thankfully, I didn’t have to do anything to the surface of the letters and could begin the task of assembly.

Each letter took approximately 28 flowers, so I started on one end of the S and began gluing those down in rainbow order until I reached the other end. Once all of the flowers were glued down, I went back through and glued leaves in the spaces available. Now, repeat this process another two times to complete three S’s. The flowers on the bottom of the S overhang slightly, so those are curled up some to allow the letters to stand on their own, as I had envisioned.

That does it for this non-card project! Like I said, it was a true labor of love to cut about 90 flowers for this project, but I’m so happy with how they turned out, and am looking forward to working on a letter T for my studio. Don’t forget to check out the entire Be Bold release over on Simon’s website, and also the Instagram Hop going on today. Thanks again for joining me, and stay awesome, friend!
